Panerai / Radiomir 1940 Art Deco PAM00791

Description:

The History of ... Panerai was founded in 1860 in Florence by Giovanni Panerai and is now considered the most famous Italian watch company. Panerai started his business by producing measurement and precision systems for the Italian Navy, which gradually led to an affinity for watchmaking and other precision instruments. In 1930, Panerai watches were well known in the Italian military and the company had an exclusive contract with the Navy to produce their watches and aiming sites for various types of weaponry. The ruggedness and durability of the Panerai watches is still symbolic today, and the company only started producing wristwatches for the general public in 1993. Currently Panerai produces a very limited number of pieces and therefore keeps demand high. Each piece is numbered on the back out of how many were produced that year. Limited edition collections and the company’s impressive history are some of the strongest arguments for purchasing a Panerai watch. Although the military history suggests power and precision, Panerai watches are finely tuned mechanisms encased in elegant and stylish cases...

Personal Note— NIB+LTD, from a collector. Comes with Box & Papers, as seen in photos... Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Art Deco Ivory PAM00791, polished Stainless Steel cushion shaped case … PAM00791 – Art Deco Mood… A nostalgic trip back to pre-Officine Panerai days. For the most part, Panerai's watches are variations to the basic Radiomir and Luminor archetypes formulae and each year the brand finds new and interesting ways to riff on these classic models. The PAM 791, break the mold a little bit. The Radiomir 1940 case is just as you'd expect it to be (rendered here in the 47mm size), but the ivory dial of this watch is inspired by a historic pendulum clock that sat in Panerai's original boutique in Florence. Panerai opts for a flat dial that has Art Deco style numerals, printed chapter rings, and ornate, faceted hands. It’s decidedly old-school and a little dressier than what you're used to from Panerai. The watch is powered by the P.3000 caliber, which is Panerai's in-house hand-wound movement. It packs three days of power reserve and the finishing has a sort of industrial edge to it. The brand experimenting while still staying true to its core identity. The fact that this dial wasn’t just dreamed up out of nowhere helps connect this model to the Panerai story and extra little touches like those hands (a shape Panerai has never used before) and the domed Plexiglass crystal amp up the vintage feel. With watches like this, those details really add up and take them to the next level. Limited to 500 pieces..
